Dear human rights defenders,
My name is Han Hui Hui, a 24-year-old Singaporean.
On 27 Sep 2014, I organised an event in Singapore's only venue available for public assembly.
I criticised the Singapore government for not having transparency and accountability, especially towards our pension fund.
Today, Singapore's court found me guilty of "illegal demonstration" and "public nuisance".
I now face a fine of SGD$3,100 (in default 5 weeks jail) and I'm being disqualified for standing for the general election as the fine exceeds SGD$2,000.
Attached in this email is Singapore’s District Judge Mr CHAY YUEN FATT brief grounds of decision.
This is the first time in Singapore where a judge did not write his own name and did not sign his signature on the judgement he made.
In page 1 point 4, he mentioned that we “made vitriolic speeches to denounce the government and various government policies”.
Please help me appeal to the Singapore government as this infringes our rights to public assembly and my rights to parliamentary participation.
