A two year old child attending Bridges Montessori preschool in Punggol has been diagnosed with latent tuberculosis (TB). Earlier this month, a trainee teacher had tested positive for the disease.
It appeared that the new trainee teacher had cleared the medical examination in her home country. It was only after a pre-employment screening in Singapore that the teacher was diagnosed with active TB.
The centre's principal had contacted the parents via email on 14 Aug to inform them that a teacher had been diagnosed with the disease, and that some children might have been exposed to the disease. On 23 Aug, the Tuberculosis Control Unit (TBCU) carried out screening at the preschool. The preschool is attended by approximately 50 students.
This is the second time this month that a preschool teacher had been diagnosed with TB. Just last Wednesday, it was reported that a preschool teacher with Little Greenhouse at Bukit Batok was diagnosed with the disease. A total of 124 staff and children were screen for the disease.
