VIVOCITY GIANT FALSELY ACCUSED MY WIFE OF SHOPLIFTING; THEY FRISKED & EMBARRASSED HER

22nd August 2016 (3pm):
My wife went to Giant vivocity branch, which she frequents as it is extremely convenient, 4 LPO (Loss Prevention Officer) enquired on the following:

1. Do you have a husband?
2. Do you have children?
3. What does your husband do?
4. What is his occupation?
And questioning her along these lines and asked her to follow them and to produce her Identification.

Firstly, what has my occupation or whether she has a husband have to do with anything?

She was frisked and nothing was found as they had suspected her of shoplifting. When nothing was found they should have given her the IC back and told her that she was free to leave.

But instead, abusing their protocols, they had lied to her to tell her that the branch manager wanted to see her, but the branch manager, VINCENT, was not in Singapore during this time as clarified by the staff ANGIE in the head office, when we called up on 26th Ausgust 2016

Instead, the LPOs called in the police. While waiting for the police, my wife was sitting in the room with the door open like a criminal being indicted or being caught for something she did not do. This made her very embarrassed and psychologically affected.

When the Investigation Officer (IO) arrived, Mr Victor Lam, from Clementi Police division clarified that there was no sufficient evidence to keep her nor was there any evidence that she stole anything. During that time, the LPOs showed the IO a partial footage on the 15th July 2016, which also could not prove her shoplifting.

After a full investigation, the IO came to a conclusion that there was little to no evidence or sufficient proof that my wife was implicated with shoplifting. He also alerted me to the fact that the proper procedure was NOT followed by the LPOs. He was very professional and did a full and thorough investigation.

31st August 2016:
Branch Manager, Vincent, called me up and I told him of the incident and happenings which he told me he was unaware of and that he will do an investigation on the matter and get back to me on 2nd September 2016.

It is now 13th September 2016, no apology nor any calls has been made by the branch manager.

I feel that such staff as the LPO and the branch manager are a disgrace to work in Singapore’s service industry, and they have ridiculed nad ruined the reputation and image of Giant Vivocity.

Up till today, my wife is emotionally and psychologically affected and refuses to go to any supermarket with anxiety and panic attacks. This affects my family as a whole and also my little baby girl.

As a husband, I feel like my wife has been done a grave injustice under the circumstances, and also warn consumers of Giant Vivocity not to produce any
IC until the police arrives to avoid being paraded like my wife has been.

Thank you,
Johnson
