In 2001, MM Lee Kuan Yew and Mr Goh Chok Tong sued Dr Chee Soon Juan for defamation over allegations which could not be proven.
MM Lee declared Dr Chee, I quote, "a cheat, congenital liar and political gangster".
Dr Chee responded with his own lawsuit over the vicious slanderous insults. However he dropped the lawsuit soon.
To add insult to injury, a statement from Mr Lee's press secretary stated: "Instead of asking the court to fix the trial, Dr Chee backed off, and has done nothing since December 2001 to proceed with his claim. There is only one explanation. He is afraid of being cross-examined, and of cross-examining Mr Lee.
If he is really keen to confront Mr Lee face to face, he should proceed with his defamation claim. He will then have a second chance to cross-examine Mr Lee."
THE PAP'S STANCE:
IF YOU DO NOT RESPOND WITH A LAWSUIT, THE ALLEGATIONS ABOUT YOU MUST BE TRUE!
So now I ask these questions.
1) When Dr Lee Wei Ling "allegedly" accused Mr Lee Hisien Loong of abusing his power, why did Mr Lee Hisien Loong not respond with a defamation lawsuit?
2) When Factwire revealed SMRT's defective trains, Mr Khaw Boon Wan responded with a lot of explanations. Most notably, he potrayed himself as an innocent victim of collateral damage over Factwire's vicious attack on mainland China. Why has Mr Khaw and SMRT not responed with a defamation lawsuit on Factwire?
3) China's News Global Times made allegations about Singapore pushing for a stronger statement on an international tribunal's ruling. Ambassador Stanley Loh refuted those allegations as false and unfounded. So why hasn't the PAP sued Global times for defamation yet?
Was it not PAP's brilliant and flawless assertion that if you do not respond with a defamation lawsuit, the allegations about you must be true?
So why don't you sue the person who is accusing you of abusing your power, if the allegations are not true, and if you are not afraid to be cross-examined?
