
Today, at about 8.30pm my boyfriend and I took an uberpool ride from East
Coast Park to Pasir Ris. The driver, Qui Yen, was supposed to reach the pick
up location within 6 minutes from the time I requested (from the uber app)
but she made the wrong turn and made my boyfriend and I wait for nearly 12
minutes.
Once we got on the cab, I requested her to take the fastest route possible.
She then asked, "Why fastest route?". So I replied "It's an emergency." The
ride was going smoothly till Ms Qui received a notification stating that
another passenger was waiting for her at Eunos to go to the same destination,
Pasir Ris. Although my boyfriend and I were in a rush, we closed an eye
because we took uberpool and not uber exec. The reason why we requested
uberpool because firstly, it was a lot cheaper and secondly we did not mind
sharing cab with someone who was heading to the same destination or same
area.
Qui was heading to Eunos to pick up the second passenger. On our way she
stated that the passenger cancelled the ride and so she continued to head to
Pasir Ris. We were almost reaching the highway towards PIE where she checked
her phone and stated that the passenger actually did not cancel the ride and
was in fact waiting for her. She then called him and asked him to wait as she
made an U turn to the destination of the second passenger.
Upon reaching the destination of the second passenger, we understood that the
ride was meant for two people and not one. The second passenger was a man who
was carrying an infant. Initially, my boyfriend and I did not see him
carrying the child. We both were seated at the back seat. The man then sat at
the front. Only then we realised that he was carrying an infant. Before I
could tell the man to exchange seats (because it was so dangerous for the man
to sit at the front seat with his baby), Qui already started driving. She
then used an impolite tone and told the guy with the infant child "you're
carrying a baby you're suppose to select the 2 seats you know since there are
two people occupying the seat." The man immediately said "yeah I selected the
one with two seats". The driver, Qui checked her phone (WHILE DRIVING) and
refused to apologize but said "oh yea".
She then asked one of us from the back (either my boyfriend or me) to switch
with the guy in front since it was not safe for him to sit with his infant
child at the front seat. So I volunteered to sit at the front. Before I got
out of the back seat to go to the front seat, I told Qui this : "next time
please check it properly, I'm already in a rush". I believe I used a polite
and calm tone when I told her that. I then proceeded to the front seat and
sat next to the driver. She started raising her voice and shouted at me said
somewhere along the line that she checked the app properly and that it was
not her fault. I can't remember the exact words but she said something along
that line. She was literally shouting at my right ear. I then said "It was
because of your negligence which has caused this long ride." She then raised
her voice louder and said it wasnt her fault. I got so angry at her for
shouting at me and for being so defiant, I mentioned about her driving,
stating that she can't drive properly (in my defense it was true) She even
said "if you not happy call the police lah or you report to uber." I then
said "you're very unprofessional. I will sure report this to the uber". I'm
thinking she got scared or something she told me to get out of the car. Her
exact words were "you want to talk so much get out of my car lah and go
complain" obviously I did not want to ride on her car so I told her to drop
me and my boyfriend at the side of the bus stop we were passing by. Firstly I
refused to pay her for her bad service but she did not stop the car. I told
her I will talk to uber and infer from there and see if I want to pay her or
not. My boyfriend( who was at the back seat) said "It's ok I will pay for it
let's just go". I reluctantly accepted it and took pictures of her (she was
driving at this point of time). From the pictures you can see what a kind of
driver she is from the way she "holds" the stirling.
She stopped the car at the side of a bus stop a long enuos. The total ride
cost $11.60 but my boyfriend placed a $10 dollar note together with 2 $1
coins next to her seat. I took just one of the one dollar coin and gave her
60 cents, since the total was $11.60. I got off the car and she shouted "eh
it's 11.60 you only gave me 10.60" I told her "no my boyfriend gave you one
ten dollar note and one one dollar coin and I gave you 60 cents. And what she
said next made me extremely angry. She said " you know what lady you're a
cheapskate woman. It's ok you don't want to pay one dollar nvm you're such a
cheapskate woman". I was shocked and was lost for words. I was extremely
disgusted with her behaviour. I was rushing to go back home for an emergency.
I had too much in mind and she just had to make things worst. I took a deep
breath and said "Excuse me next time learn how to treat passengers with
respect and learn some courtesy" as I was saying this she interrupted me and
said something. I couldn't hear her properly bc I was out of the car but if
I'm not wrong I'm 80% sure I heard the word "Bastard". I could not control my
temper I looked at her and called her a "fucking bitch"and slammed the door.
This entire conversation was witnessed by the man with the infant child (who
was seating at the back seat) I know what I said was wrong and no matter how
bad the situation was I shouldn't have used those words on her as it was
extremely wrong and inappropriate of me to do so. I want to apologize to her
for the words I have used but I am still very angry at the way she treated
me. She was definitely unprofessional. She did not give any form of respect.
The problem started when I calmly stated that it was her negligence that
caused the delay. She couldn't accept the fact and blew the issue up which
has now led to this incident. I apologize again for calling her a "fucking
bitch" but I honestly couldn't handle her. I had so many things going in
mind. Just to let you all know, I was attending a function at a bar at east
coast when I received a call from home stating that someone in my family had
passed away. I then immediately rushed and took an uber. I know I should have
taken the uber exec for such emergency but I didn't have enough cash to take
up the uber exec ride ( it would have cost me more than 22sgd) the uber pool
stated that it would cost me only 14sgd.
I had such a bad experience with Qui. No one should be treated like the way I
was treated. Using words like "cheapskate", "get out of my car" are
absolutely inappropriate. I don't know if she was having a hard time like I
was having but I'm pretty sure it wasn't as bad as my situation. I don't wish
to sue her or anything. I just want to let people know about my experience
and most importantly want to let uber drivers, cab drives or grab car drivers
to be more alert and be focused. I understand driving can be tiring
especially when you're driving for long hours but I hope drivers will be more
friendly and respectful to passengers. Like I mentioned, it was because of
the driver's negligence for such an incident to happen. All I did was told
her to be more careful. I did not raise my voice until she did.
I truly apologize for the words I've used on her. To Qui, I am very sorry for
using such words on you I know I shouldn't have but I hope you will more
polite and friendly to your other future passengers.
I have decided not to post any of the pictures taken of her. I am someone who
accepts privacy and therefore I will not go against my will. However I will
attach the picture taken of her "holding the stirling". I seek all of your
understanding in this. Thanks for the read.
