Dear ASS Editors,
I saw this story on marketing website Mumbrella Asia highlighting Cold Storage's Deepavali promotion of... 38% off beef!
The write-up made light of of the boo boo and jokingly awarded Cold Storage the "culturally insensitive promotion of the month" award. It also added tongue-in-cheek to "stay tuned for the next seasonal special in Cold Storage… 48% off Raya pork".
Personally I am just astounded that a large organisation can make such a huge mistake like this, and worse the promo and the marketing collateral must have gone through several approval layers so it's not a case of one single idiot to blame.
Certainly doesn't speak well of the cultural awareness or intelligence of our people.
