Dear Editor,
I went to the customer service counter at jem to redeem 2 pieces of wrapping paper presenting my receipt.
To my surprise, I was asked to present my nric for the redemption. These 2 pieces of wrapping paper probably cost less than 50cts! Isnt the receipt sufficient to account for the wrapping papers issued?
I decided not to redeem it as I did not want my personal particulars to be recorded in their system which may lead to unauthorise use.
I am concerned that our malls offering free gifts/vouchers and restarants offering senior citizens discounted meals are collecting too much personal information.
I hope the relevant authority could look into this unnecessary collection of personal data as it can lead to identity theft.
