Looking forward to shorter travel time to Malaysia via rail? You’ll be happy to know that we’ve reached the next milestone for the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (#HSR), with the signing of a Bilateral Agreement today.

Under the terms of the agreement, the HSR line in Singapore and Malaysia will be linked by a bridge over the Straits of Johore, 25m above the water level.
The KL-SG HSR will also have separate operators for cross-border and domestic Malaysia services respectively.

The first operator (OpCo International) will operate the non-stop 90min KL-Singapore Express service and the cross-border shuttle service between Iskandar Puteri-Singapore. The second operator (OpCo Domestic) will operate the domestic service within Malaysia.

International travellers can look forward to a seamless travel experience, with co-located Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) facilities at Singapore, Bandar Malaysia, and Iskandar Puteri. This means that you will only need to obtain customs clearance at the point of departure.

Singapore and Malaysia will jointly award the tender for a Joint Development Partner (JDP) in 2017 to provide advice on operational, technical and procurement matters. The HSR is targeted to commence in 2026.
