I have nothing against Christians, but I have been hounded by members of the NUS christian society at least 4 times in the past fortnight, and I feel very harassed by them.

When I say I am a free-thinker, they say something to the effect of "still, we'd like to share about God and the bible" and continue on for at least a good 15 minutes. One pair even replied in a condescending tone of "I hope God will make you become a believer" after being told I'm not interested.

Nothing you say will make me change my beliefs. Why not move on upon receiving the first "no"? Do you know how offensive it is for you to impose your religion randomly on others even after getting rejected several times?

It started about two weeks ago, it was once my favorite birdie Spotted Dove Kookoo every early morning at 7am plus, very loudly, affected my sleep waken me up and unable to continue sleeping since it's so early.

Now I beginning to unlike such kinda birdie as it's a noise nuisance to me now. I had even complained to AVA, a week ago but they Bochap my complain, even come and check & update me via email also don't have. This noise nuisance had tortured me for two weeks. I have had deprived insufficient sleep for a stretch of two weeks.

I hope AVA can take action on this matter soonest, it was located at Soo Chow Rise, please walk around this whole stretch of area to check it, see how to settle this problem.

Dear Editors,

Busybodies should be punished with demerit points and a hefty fine for causing congestion and traffic snarls, especially on the expressways.

This morning, there was a fatal accident along PIE towards Tuas near Adam Road exit on the right lane where a car rammed into a motorcyclist and the motorcyclist died on the spot, guess what happened next? Everybody were there (including traffic from the opposite direction) are either driving at dead slow speed or stopping to see the commotion, I wonder what is so interesting to be nosey about? Is it very fun and interesting to see an accident taking place or when there is fatality?

Now when these busybodies were confronted either by authorities or motorists on why they slow down or even stopped causing congestion, their trademark answer will be " I am trying to see if there is anything I can do to help" and some "smart alecs" used accidents as an excuse to excuse themselves from work or event for a day simply by telling their bosses that they are the witness(es) for that accident and the authorities is asking them to assist.

So now what is going on? Being a busybody is a trend now?

I hope this post will be shared to create an awareness to motorists outside, I got a Friend who work as a insurance claim consultant and would like to tell the public to be careful of taxi drivers, motorcyclists and cyclists. They belong to insurance fraud syndicates tying up with workshops or claim Consultants to inflate insurance claims so that they still got enough money when they are not working as a result of the accident.

Apparently, the GIA, general insurance association urged people to write in to file a complaint against such inflated or fraudulent claims but there is still more to be done. I suggest that a bill to be passed in parliament and limit the amount of claim that one can file so that such cases of fraudulent or inflated claims can be reduced.

Just before Chinese New Year, my student was not in class. So I gave out two oranges to everyone in the class except her.

The next day, I received a cal from the student's mother. She requested that I deliver the oranges to her home.

Why so calculative one? Just remember, your children will follow your example, so, set good examples to them to ensure they turn out ok. This case, i really don't know what to say

Racism in Singapore I thought was something on the decline. Everyone around me is so kind. Everyone is more and more understanding towards racial equality and racial understanding. But someone people just like to prove that they are the black sheep of the bunch. Posting on social media acting unafraid of consequences.

Being a Chinese myself, I can't stand this kind of behavior. I have contacted facebook about it but no actions have been taken. Posts with racist comments are all over his facebook.

My purpose is to show that racism in Singapore isn't gone and we have to take action when such an injustice is done. Keeping silent isn't helping.

Oh dear! Today's massive jam at the PIE this morning is reportedly due to a death on the road. A motorcyclist died after a collision with a lorry at the PIE in the direction of Tuas near the Adam Flyover at 6.19am.

According to the police, the lorry driver, a 54-year-old man, was arrested for causing death by a negligent act. The rider, Mr Shahray Suhaimi, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The accident caused to lanes of the PIE to be closed to traffic, and the jam stretched all the way to Jalan Eunos.

Condolences to the family of the unfortunate motorcyclist. It seems there are now more and more of such accidents, where a lorry driver driving negligently, probably in a rush to get jobs completed.

I'm a PRC lady, a scholarship holder, graduated from NTU in 2016. Recently I browsed one of my friend's QQ zone and found her 2 posts in the past. She is also a PRC scholarship holder from my batch in NTU. I'm shocked by her hostility towards Singapore and Singaporeans.

The direct translations of her posts are:
"The more I think over it, the more fucking awful I find it is. 1400K RMB of guarantee deposit (to get rid of 6-year bond of working in Singapore). I fucking stay in this misshaped country to attend university for 4 years, which almost makes me vomiting. This country is unable to think. It's modern-time Sparta. It's awful to death. I fucking regret (coming to Singapore) fucking."

“My level of hating Singapore and feeling disgusting towards it has already been above the sky. Disgusting transportation. Ugly and misshaped people. Singlish is scrannel to death. There’s no pleasure here at all. (I will) leave (Singapore) immediately after graduation, go to other countries for education and job hunting. It’s too disgusting too disgusting here.”

I don't know whether I should agree with her point of view or not, since she's my friend. However, it’s a sure thing that she holds horrible hostility towards this country.

What's worse than stepping into a warm puddle of water?

Finding out that the puddle was actually a smelly puddle of urine left behind by some inconsiderate commuter on a bus!

According to a netizen, she found a foul smelling puddle of urine under the seat of a double decker bus 65. She said that the entire cabin smelt of urine and she was shocked to discover the disgusting sight under one of the seats.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

With reference to my article “Water price: Have costs, but no revenue?” (Feb 24) – Terry Xu, the editor of theonlinecitizen had talked to me about the Public Utilities Board’s (PUB) annual reports.

No mention of revenues and profits, only costs?

Since there was no mention of revenues or profits in the media reports in the Straits Times and Channel NewsAsia – here’s what I have been able to compute from the PUB’s annual reports available in its web site.

$166.8m profits in FY2015

The Net Income after Government Grants and after Contribution to GCF (Government Consolidated Fund) and Taxation (Profits) for FY2015 was $166.8 million – an increase of 77.3 per cent compared to say FY2010’s profit of $94.1 million.

Last 7 years’ profits – $1.1b?

The total profits in the last seven years (only seven years’ annual reports in the PUB’s web site) was $1.0909 billion.

How much profits in the last 53 years?

Since the PUB was formed in 1963 – how much profits has it made in the last 53 years?

If we include accumulated interest – how much would it be for the last 53 years?

Projected profits – $220m a year?

Since the increase in domestic water prices will be from 30 to 41 per cent – if we assume the overall increase to be say about 32 per cent – the projected profits may be about $220 million ($166.8 x 1.32) a year.

Other countries’ “water profits or losses”?

How do we compare with the “water profits or losses” of other countries?

Population increase = even higher profits?

However, if the population and GDP continues to increase – and water consumption also increase – the projected profits may be even higher.

Can you imagine how much the profits may be when the population reaches 6.9 million?

Justified or not?

So, is the increase in water prices justified, especially since we are in one of our worse economic downturns?

To those who are not there to understand and witness the cement looking beam platform or ledge...pls do not make insensitive comments or remarks ... I have just came back from Orchard Central and had took a very detail look and understanding of the low glass barrier and cement like beam platform ... all i can say is 9 or even 10 out of 10 guys will definitely climb over to retrieve their fallen stuffs ...

I know I would even I'm already 52 not to mention what a 17 yrs old will do ... to me the only stupidity in tis unfortunate case is the construction of the cement looking platform with the low glass barrier with no warning sign at all??? ...

"Why build something that looked solid when its "Empty?" ... Be there before airing your insensitve thoughts ... my heart sank and filled with anger when I happened to be there to witness & understand the thinly empty platform ...

Yes, I have teared watching it in anger ... the worst feeling was ... there isn't any guard, cordon or danger signage along the opposite parallel side of the walk bridge ...

I have to drag along my tired daughter all the way to seek advice fm the police post on my concern and was advised to speak to building management. When approached the front desk, i was advised to call the office on Monday!!!!

I Insisted to speak personally to the security officer in charge and managed to convince him to at least put a warning signage at the opposite walk bridge ... I sincerely hoped he wil do what was promised to me before I left with a heavy heart ...

RIP Jonathan whom I or we never met ... my condolences to your family ... a young beautiful life has been taken away so unfortunately & unnecessary ...

On 1 Feb 2005, it cost only $224 for a motorcycle COE. On 5 Feb 2017, the price had increased to $6412 or about 28 times.

Did the salary of delivery drivers increase by even 2.8 times?

The last time a motorcycle COE cost below $2000 was in January 2014. Within 15 months, it had increased by $4000 to above $6000. It appears a motorcycle COE may cost more than $10000 soon.

During this economic contraction, PAP will of course be looking for easy ways to increase government revenue, eg increase water prices, car park changes, etc. Motorcycle COEs costing below $7000 may soon be history.

Would be interesting to know if motorcyclists voted to increase the cost of their COEs.

Jurong East temporary bus interchange is so gross. So much litter at the bus parks.

Since public are not allowed in the bus parks, it is very obvious that the rubbish on the ground is all contributed by the bus captains. If they can litter so freely even at their own workplace, I am skeptical of whether they even bother to keep public areas clean outside of working hours, with simple gestures such as throwing their own rubbish into rubbish bins.

My unhappy experience with Kleenwash laundry in Yew Tee. I sent my winter coat with belt and hat to wash on 26 Dec 16 for dry cleaning. I noticed the bill i received did not write any hat or belt on it and already reluctant to leave it with Kleenwash but I never take my concerns seriously and decided to leave my coat as it is with them thinking Kleenwash is professional. I collected my coat on 8 Jan 17 not really checking in 8detail as it was packed nicely in the laundry plastic. The following week I flew straight to Japan and tuck my coat in my luggage together with the laundry plastic.

When i reached Japan, i took out my coat to wear and found my belt missing. When i reach Singapore on 14 Jan I straight went to Kleemwash in Yew Tee to informed about this incident and the woman at counter promised to help me find and check with their factory. At the same time I also left my coat there for 2nd wash and also in hope that with my coat they can trace my belt easily. Unfortunately, they informed me the belt cannot be found in their factory as they have returned to me the 1st time of their wash. I told them that I did not have the belt with me and seek their help to find my belt. After that I have been calling to check on the belt status which have no results and finally on 25 Feb 17 when I call again to check, the woman whom pick up my call finally told me you have to report your lost in 24 hours and hung up my call rudely.

I regreted for using kleenwash service. I will also take this as a lesson and will not leave any accessories with laundries whom do not indicate clearly all accesories received from customer in their bill because you may missed to check in detail during collection and end up no satisfactory responsibility given.

Seems like the task force set up to study how young Singaporeans can be encouraged to adopt healthy habits have recommended that the young should get more opportunities to take part in physical activities, within and outside schools.

This includes getting the pre-schoolers getting an hour of physical activity a day, which will double what they are doing currently, and for the primary schools to have 2 hours of physical activities per week. The Early Childhood Development Agency will also impose nutritional requirements, such as providing fruits on a regular basis and not serving sugary drinks or deep-fried food to pre-schoolers. Students at all levels will also be encouraged to eat healthy food, with the school canteens playing their part by offering healthier food and drink options.

All these are good moves to get children and the youths to participate in more physical activities and adopt healthy habits. Although they miss the most important part. Get the youth to abandon their mobile devices the whole day while in school, otherwise, they will be engaged only in their social media and games on the mobile devices.

I was browsing the Orchard Gateway website on 26 Feb (Sun), and chanced upon this fashion advert ("Against The Norm") of a young man in a flowery shirt upside-down, with his head against the floor. Is it pure coincidence or Orchard Gateway's marketing department trying to be funny with this tongue-in-cheek message? ("step into a new world"?!?)

I find this ad very distasteful and appalling, as 17-year old Jonathan Chow recently died (24 Feb) from falling from the Level 4 'ledge' at the link-bridge between Orchard Gateway and Orchard Central.

Ever seen the ChannelNewsAsia or Channel 5 advertisement about robots taking over jobs done by humans in a few years time? Feel scared? Or simply irritated?

It goes something like this - "It's kinda scary that we don't know what the future is going to be like. Banker, Doctor, Robots taking over. A lot of jobs will be lost" This ad really irritates the heck out of me. And yes, since the time frame of this ad means I am one of the old people the ad is referring to, then maybe I should educate the young.

Nobody knows the future! That, in essence, is the beauty of life. It is how you make it an adventure ahead. And you don't study for the sake of getting a job. You study to get educated. Once you get a job, you train for that job. And why must you only say banker and doctor? Other jobs? Why make bankers and doctors afraid for their jobs.

Maybe the ad is just there to generate more eyeballs for the two channels. Falling viewership? Let's shock our audience. Maybe journalism will be taken over by robots. I hope so.

So, 4,400 people have been found to have submitted false claims for SkillsFuture credits without actually taking any course. And the money cheated in the false claims amounted to about $2.2 million.

Are people in Singapore so hard up over money? Are we not making enough money from honest hard work, that we have to resort to cheating and lying our way, to claim freebies handed out by the government? Of course, the freebies handed out by the government are an oxymoronic sentence. There are never freebies handed out.

Maybe the government would do well to find out just why these people resorted to cheating. Maybe people would rather receive actual cash, then monetary credit that can be used to pay for a course that maybe people do not need.
